Can I ride an electric scooter or an electric motorbike on a normal driver's licence?

The short answer? Yes. If you were awarded your driving licence before 2001 you are legally able to ride any electric scooter or motorbike with a top speed of 30mph or under. They are the equivalent of a 50cc moped or scooter and you can literally ride away on them today.

If you received your driving licence after 2001 or wish to ride a more powerful electric bike, you will need to get a CBT certificate before riding away. The CBT course lasts a day or two and typically costs between around £165 and £325.
